Mixing heavy industrial equipment and pedestrian traffic in a tight area can be a recipe for disaster if the proper safety procedures aren’t followed.

Gamaliel Enriquev-Salzador, 47, of Anderson, SC, was working for several hours in a scrap metal yard, loading an 18 wheel trackhoe with scrap metal. The trackhoe operator was using an attached magnet to fill the truck while working in a tight area with only six to ten feet to move in any direction.

Enriquev-Salzador either didn’t see the machine coming or the operator didn’t see him due to the limited visbility. He was run over by the trackhoe and crushed to death.

OSHA is investigating the death.
