OSHA Investigates Two Fatal Workplace Accidents in Boston

by on January 7, 2014 · 0 Comment POSTED IN: Workplace Safety Network

Are workplace safety violations, or the lack of proper enforcement of safety measures, to blame for the early December deaths of two men in unrelated accidents in Boston?

Questions like these will most likely be determined as investigations unfold that are now underway by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and local authorities.

On December 5, a 37-year old was severely injured by a scissor lift at a Boston work site. He later died of his injuries at a hospital.

When using a scissor lift, OSHA recommends establishing and following safe work practices which include, but are not limited to:

  • training workers
  • inspecting controls before operation
  • using lift on a firm, level surface
  • select a location free of electrical power sources
  • setting the breaks and stabilizing the lift before operation
  • operate during safe weather conditions, and
  • reporting problems and malfunctions.
