Rapid Learning Institute announces the three pillars of effective soft-skills e-learning

After an extensive review of research in adult education, online learning and cognitive psychology, Rapid Learning Institute (RLI) has found what it believes to be the formula for successful soft-skills e-learning.

The result – what RLI calls its Three Pillars – is three e-learning principles that increase learner retention and engagement: Rapid Learning, Single-Concept Learning and Research-Based Learning.

Featured now on the RLI website, the Three Pillars are supported by videos with RLI CEO Stephen Meyer, who explains each concept and illustrates how, when combined, the three strategies create effective online learning modules for the modern workplace.

Rapid Learning is short-form e-learning for today’s short-attention-span workforce,” says Meyer. “It is a short training module that plays by the rules of the medium in which it was created – video.” RLI’s modules are six to 10 minutes long, designed to engage busy learners, Millennials and mobile viewers.

In addition to being long-form, traditional e-learning presents too much information at once, creating cognitive overload. RLI solves this issue with the second pillar: single-concept learning. “Single-Concept Learning teaches one skill designed to change one behavior and achieve one specific outcome,” states Meyer. “By narrowing the focus of each module to one compelling concept, RLI believes learners will experience less cognitive load and greater knowledge retention.”

Training should light a fire under learners to deploy the skills and techniques they’ve learned. This is what the third pillar, Research-Based Learning, does. “Research provides authority and credibility,” Meyer says, “and is a great way to trigger behavior change and better outcomes.” RLI’s modules are based on academic and institutional research, which provides valuable insights and inspires people to change their behavior.
