Your kids are a commodity

Thanks for showing me pictures of your kids.

I gotta tell you though: They seem like a commodity to me.

Cute? I see cute kids all the time.

Smart? Everybody’s kids are smart.

Unique? You wish. Put ‘em in a room with a bunch of other kids, and I bet even you would have trouble picking them out.

Let’s face it. Kids are a dime a dozen.

I’m sorry – have I offended you?

I sure hope so. Your kids, like my kids, are incomparably special. You wouldn’t trade them for the world.

If you’re in sales, I challenge you to think of your products and services the way you do your children. I’ve heard too many salespeople complain that they’re stuck selling “me too” products. I’ve seen too many of them roll over when a buyer says the only thing that matters is price. I’ve seen them blame their lost sales on the “commoditization” of their industry.

If you’ll stand up for your kids, why not for the stuff that puts a roof over their heads and food in their mouths? Know why your products and services are special. Make them the apple of your eye. Put their pictures in your wallet. They need your love too.
