Five personalized employee recognition ideas that make a big impact

Personalized employee awards are tangible signs of that persons value to the company

We don’t need to lecture smart managers on the importance of employee recognition. But even the most ingenious manager can run short of new, economical ideas for recognizing exceptional performance or initiative. If that’s the case, you might want to consider some of the following high impact but cost effective employee recognition ideas:

  1. Who’s who?
  2. We have yet to meet the person who didn’t scan his or her college alumni bulletin for news of former classmates. Imagine your employee’s delight to see the news of his achievement in the publication – and learn that you put it there as part of your employee recognition program.

  3. Card tricks.
  4. Create special logos symbolizing certain levels of achievement. The symbol conveys both the employee recognition for that performance and their value to the company. Then have meritorious employees’ business cards reprinted to bear the appropriate logo.

  5. ‘Celeb’ congrats.
  6. Hire a celebrity impersonator to leave a congratulatory voice mail message on the deserving employee’s phone. Make it a celebrity she looks up to, and have the message left after-hours so she gets it first thing the next morning.

  7. Good kids.
  8. Remembering an employee’s birthday isn’t a new idea. But what if you took the trouble to mark his children’s birthdays? Very impressive, and all you need to do is leave a voice mail or send an e-mail.

  9. What a ride.
  10. If you don’t mind spending a little more to recognize a really unusual achievement, consider renting the employee’s dream car for her for a week. Every mile traveled in that Benz, ‘Vette, or Jag will drive home the message that you value her.
