New EEOC stats show ever-growing workforce diversity

New data from the EEOC confirms that not only are there more minority workers in the workforce than there used to be, but the mix is increasingly diverse.

This means you have to be ever more careful that unwary or boorish co-workers don’t create problems with national origin discrimination.

The EEOC reports say that the rate of minority employment tripled from 1976 through 2008, from 11% to 34% of the national workforce. Within that group, Hispanics grew the fastest, from 2.5% to more than 13%.

More potential conflicts
As more types of minorities are represented, the potential for cross-cultural friction increases. Keep in mind that discrimination is still discrimination – even when it’s committed by a foreign-born or minority worker.
